A room in the Roof or Attic room is defined as a room accessed by means of a fixed staircase with a common wall height of less than 1.8m

Grants are available under the ECO grant system for Room in the Roof insulation and the insulation should be fixed to all elements of the room including sloping ceilings, flat ceilings, common and party walls and dormers. Ideally the residual loft space should also be insulated.

Savings of up to £400 per year can be made.

To qualify for a grant under the ECO scheme:

You must live in your own home or one rented from a private landlord and be in receipt of the following benefits:

Guaranteed pension credit.

Child tax credit with a household income below the scheme threshold.

Working tax credit with a household income below the scheme threshold.

Universal credit with a household income below the scheme threshold.

Income based job seekers allowance.

Income related Employment and Support allowance.

Income support.
